The Greatest Blockbuster in History

Like a blockbuster movie, the biblical story of humanity is filled with supernatural events, drama, intrigue, conflict, failure, triumph, love, war, and a very wild ending.

But there’s no fiction here. We really were created by a loving, eternal, supernatural, transcendent Being. We really did mess things up by rejecting His plans for us, and we’ve been on a very long journey toward that wild ending ever since.

But God, or rather the existence of God, can’t be proven right?

Indeed, just as we cannot empirically prove that a singularity emerged from nothing (or from outside of time and space as we know it), the Chinese legend of a primordial soup coalescing into an egg (from which the Creator Pangu emerges), or the eternal and cyclic nature of the universe as proposed by Hinduism and Buddhism, we cannot empirically prove the existence of God.

All cosmological origin-of-the-universe beliefs require a step of faith. So, for now, let’s follow the Judeo-Christian God path.

Act 1: God creates humanity “in His image” (from the Hebrew צלם אלוהים meaning, “a reflection of God”); as male and female (from the Hebrew זָכָ֥ר וּנְקֵבָ֖ה meaning, “biological male and female”). The Divine intent is for humanity to live in harmony with God and His creation, to procreate and raise families to do the same.

Act 2: So as not to be mere puppets, God gives humanity the freedom to follow or reject Him. Humanity chooses to rebel against God and eventually form Him into the image of idols (e.g., graven images, animals, spirits, totems, the stars in the sky, etc.). This further distances humanity from God.

Act 3: Over time, humanity begins to form God into their image, recasting Him as a deity who aligns with their beliefs and behaviors (e.g., “My” Truth, “My” Jesus, “My” God, “My” Interpretation). God, Jesus, and the Bible can be anything humanity pleases.

Act 4: Humans form themselves into a god by completely rejecting their original created nature and compelling others to bow to their new identity. The God of the Bible no longer exists—humans are now God.

The result?

Chaos.

As each human requires others to venerate their new identity. Intersectionality increases the chaos, and more of us are regarded as less-than-valuable than others. Being a female alone is not as valuable as being a liberal female, which is less valuable than being a liberal gay female, which is less valuable than being a liberal gay racial minority female, which is less valuable than being a liberal transgender racial minority “female,” which is less valuable than a liberal transgender racial minority “female” who happens also to be disabled, which is less valuable than…

You get the picture.

This chaos reaches an inflection point, and someone comes along to bring “peace” to the situation. It simply requires everyone to give up their individualism for the sake of the State—to pledge allegiance to the new leader. We’ve seen this before with Adolf Hitler in Germany, Mussolini in Italy, Stalin in Russia, Mao in China, the Kim family in North Korea, Fidel Castro in Cuba, Muammar Gaddafi in Libya, Idi Amin in Uganda, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Pol Pot in Cambodia…the list goes on.

But this final liberator who offers an answer to the chaos, who brings “peace” to the entire world, will be different. He will not simply demand to be worshiped as God, he will also perform miracles like God, and the world will fall for his ploy.

In the Bible he’s known as the Antichrist.

He’ll rule for a while, and then things get ugly. Yet, there’s one more step. The God who “no longer exists” brings an end to it all.

Having offered His Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice on our behalf, God made a way for a restored relationship with Him. And as He did in the Garden of Eden, He gives us the freedom to accept or reject His offer—the consequences being ours to own. Those who’ve accepted God’s offer will recognize the Antichrist for who he is and reject his authority. The theological “jury” is still out regarding when God will “rapture” His people out of the chaos, but it will happen.

Unloving you say? Don’t like how God does things?

Let me ask you this:

Who initiated the relationship? Who rejected whom? Who sacrificed His only begotten Son for that relationship? Who gave us the freedom to choose our destiny?

You see, no matter the trajectory we choose, it will begin and end with God.
